Isabella Cruz-Chong
Isabella Cruz-Chong (b.1989) is a New York-based interdisciplinary artist, designer and educator. She works through installations, performances and video combining raw materials—such as soil, metal and water—with sound. Isabella’s subject matter stems from her experience growing up crossing the international border between Tijuana, Mexico, and San Diego, California. Through this lens, she addresses inner and social boundaries, in-between spaces and unification with a desire to foster self awareness and blur lines between divisive perspectives.
Isabella’s work has been included in shows at A.I.R. Gallery, NY (2019); Mana Wynwood Art Week Miami, FL (2017); El Museo del Barrio, NY (2017); Smack Mellon, NY (2016) and SXSW, TX (2015). She has been featured in Art F City. She was an A.I.R. Gallery Fellow and part of the Smack Mellon studio residency program through the New York Community Trust Van Lier Fellowship. She has also been part of the The Bronx Museum of The Arts: Artist in Marketplace (AIM) and the NYFA Immigrant Artists program. She received her MFA from Parsons School of Design and her BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
